If you drink coffee on a daily basis, you probably already know that it can bring you many benefits. But did you know that coffee grounds also have many benefits?

Coffee grounds are the ground coffee left after you brew your coffee. And it is a 100% natural material with multiple benefits and uses. For the more curious, its chemical composition is as follows: Nitrogen 2.28%, Phosphorus 0.06%, Potassium 0.6%, pH 6.2.

As said above, coffee grounds are a natural waste, composed simply of ground coffee and water. And because of its composition, it's excellent as a natural fertilizer, but also as a repellent!

  • Boost your compost

If you have a compost bin, it is good to know that earthworms are fond of coffee grounds, which help them digest organic matter. Their sensitivity to caffeine increases their activity in transforming plants into compost! Coffee grounds are therefore ideal for enriching your compost. A study published in Waste Management found that coffee grounds can be composted if the right proportions are used. Researchers found that a batch of compost containing 40% coffee grounds produced higher quality compost and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Natural repellent

Coffee is an excellent repellent, as are ashes and sand.

In your garden, place coffee grounds at the base of plants infested with aphids or attacked by slugs. You can also mix water and coffee grounds and spray your plants with the mixture.

Ants have invaded your home? Mix coffee grounds with lemon juice, and form a barrier by drawing a line of the mixture. Ants won't cross this line!

  • Feed your plants

Coffee grounds gradually release nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, basic components of fertilizers, which are very useful for the growth of your plants. Moreover, it absorbs heavy metals that contaminate the soil and water. Once dry and in powder form, you can use it sparingly on your indoor and outdoor plants. It is a very nourishing natural fertilizer!

  • An excellent cleaning product

Coffee grounds can be used as a cleaning product! It is not very abrasive, and because of its antibacterial properties, it can be used in your homemade soap recipes. Its granular texture gives a scrubbing effect and can therefore help you scrub your burnt pans. Naturally degreasing, cleaning and deodorizing, it can also replace your dishwashing liquid! To unclog your pipes, you can regularly put a spoonful of coffee grounds mixed with warm water, it will prevent odors and grease deposits. Magic this coffee grounds!

  • Keep cats away

Are you tired of having the tips of your leaves chewed on while you have catnip and your cat isn't even interested? Mix coffee grounds and citrus peelings (or juice) and sprinkle on top of your plant pots. The smell will bother your felines, who may end up being interested in your catnip! (This technique is also very good outdoors to scare away cats that are a little too interested in your flower beds.

  • Neutralize odors

Do you have that delicious cheese in your fridge? The nitrogen in coffee grounds helps neutralize odors! Take a cup or small jar, and place some coffee grounds in it while still wet.Put it in the bottom of your fridge without covering it. Once it dries out, it's time to change the grounds.

We're always looking for good beauty products to help us shine on a daily basis and take care of our bodies. Well coffee grounds are great for beauty secrets too!

  • Make a scrub

We don't need to tell you anything, coffee grounds have a granular texture. It is therefore a perfect ingredient for your skin scrubs! You can use it for the body or the face. Use circular motions in the shower for a gentle exfoliating result. For your face, you can prepare a mixture of a spoonful of pomace, a spoonful of honey and a spoonful of almond oil, and apply it gently on your face by massaging gently to exfoliate your skin.

  • Soften your lips

As you saw just before, the grittiness of coffee grounds is perfect for exfoliating and exfoliating. Do you have chapped lips? Mix half a spoonful of coffee grounds with half a spoonful of honey, and you'll have the perfect scrub for your chapped lips. Make circular movements with the mixture for 30 seconds and then wipe with a wet washcloth. Soft kisses guaranteed!

  • Fight against dark circles

A spoonful of coffee grounds, a spoonful of cottage cheese and a few drops of lemon. Mix it all together and place it in the refrigerator for a few hours. You can then apply the mixture under your eyes, leave it on for 15 minutes, then wipe with a cotton ball or a wet washcloth.
You can also simply apply cooled coffee grounds under your eyes, leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse well to finish. The anti-inflammatory properties of caffeine help constrict blood vessels, which reduces under-eye swelling.
